Powertrains and capabilities: Gas vs. electric
The most obvious difference between these two capable trucks is how they are powered. The Sierra 1500 is powered by gasoline while the Sierra EV is powered by electricity from a battery. Both trucks, though, are more than ready for challenges here in Mandan, North Dakota.
There are four engine options for the 2024 Sierra 1500. The standard turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder gets up to 310 horsepower, 430 lb-ft of torque, and 9,500 pounds of max towing. The other options include:
- 5.3-liter V8: 355 hp, 383 lb-ft of torque, and 11,200 pounds of max towing
- 6.2-liter V8: 420 hp, 460 lb-ft of torque, and 13,100 pounds of max towing
- 3.0-liter Diesel: 305 hp, 495 lb-ft of torque, and 13,300 pounds of max towing
The current GMC Sierra EV uses an Ultium battery system that delivers an outstanding 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode. This results in a 0-60-mph time under 4.5 seconds. When it comes to towing, the Sierra EV truck can handle up to 10,000 pounds. Add on the GM-estimated 440 miles of range, and you’ve got yourself a mighty capable electric truck!1
Trim levels
The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in eight trims: PRO, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The PRO, SLE, Elevation, and SLT offer modest pricing and features if you’re on a budget. When you choose an AT4 or AT4X model, you’ll get added performance features. For premium luxury, choose the Denali or the Denali Ultimate. You’ll find many of these same trims on other GMC vehicles, too, like the Acadia and the Canyon.
Currently, the only trim that’s available for the Sierra EV is the Denali Edition 1. However, in the future, GMC plans on offering AT4 and Elevation trims for the electric Sierra truck. When debuting the all-new Sierra EV, GMC wanted to truly show off with tons of premium features as standard in the amazing Denali Edition 1.
Size and pricing
GMC knows how important space is when it comes to your new truck. That’s why the new GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with multiple cab and bed sizes to suit your needs. You can choose from a regular, double, or crew cab on this truck as well as a short, standard, or long bed. The bed length for the Sierra 1500 is 69.92 inches (short), 79.44 inches (standard), or 98.2 inches (long).
With just one current trim option for the Sierra EV, you have a little less flexibility with sizing. The truck is offered with a crew cab, with four full-size doors and two rows of seating. The bed measures 71 inches but can be extended thanks to the standard GMC MultiPro™ MidGate™. This versatile cargo feature creates a 10-foot, 10-inch bed (130 inches) when you fold down the rear seats and use the load stop function.
When it comes to price, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is the more affordable option. This truck starts at $37,700 for the base trim and goes up to a starting MSRP of $82,500 for the Denali Ultimate. 2
As a Denali model itself, the new GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 starts at $99,495 but has limited availability since it’s been a hot seller for preordering.2
