FAQs
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VIP POWERTRAIN WARRANTY
The warranty begins on the day of sale. New vehicles come with a 5 year standard factory warranty; Schwan VIP Powertrain Warranty will cover an additional 2 years, so long as the odometer is under 125,000 miles.
Select used vehicles are also covered for 2 years so long as the odometer is under 50,000 miles and no older than 5 years. See the terms and conditions on the warranty form for specifics.
The Schwan VIP Powertrain Warranty is included with the purchase of the covered vehicle at no additional cost to you. It cannot be removed from the vehicle.
If you sell the vehicle or if you transfer ownership of the car, the warranty ends.
- If you have a covered repair performed between the day of sale and the sixth month anniversary of that date, the deductible for each repair is $0.
- If you have a covered repair performed between the sixth month anniversary and the second year anniversary of the purchase, you will have a disappearing deductible. With a disappearing deductible, your deductible will be $0 when covered repairs are performed at our dealership or at our assigned repair facility.
- If you have the covered repairs performed at a repair facility other than our dealership, your deductible will be $100 per covered repair. If you have a covered repair performed at any time after the fifth anniversary of the sale date, your deductible for each covered repair will be $300.
For a single covered claim, we will pay up to the fair market value of your vehicle immediately before the covered mechanical failure. The total we will pay for all covered claims can be up to the vehicle's purchase price. Our dealership is committed to providing both superior products and service to our customers.
Certain makes and models of vehicles are not eligible for inclusion in the Schwan VIP Powertrain Warranty program. Examples include Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper, Ferrari, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Saab, and Saleen Mustang. Please see our dealership team for more information.
If a vehicle is used for business, commercial, or governmental purposes, it is not covered. Your vehicle will be excluded if it has been used for towing but is not equipped with a tow package that meets or exceeds the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Any damage caused by water, rust, or contamination will not be covered. If a mechanical failure is caused by the lack of required maintenance, the repair will not be covered. This list is for illustrative purposes and is not an exhaustive list of non-covered conditions. Please see the terms and conditions on the warranty form for specifics.
- Required maintenance: It is your responsibility to maintain and service the vehicle according to the service and maintenance schedule published by the vehicle manufacturer. If you do not maintain your vehicle according to the published schedule and your failure to do so causes the mechanical failure, your claim will be restricted or denied.
- Required record keeping: You must keep repair orders (RO) and maintenance receipts issued by the facility that serviced your vehicle. Each repair order should show the date of repair, the odometer reading on that date, and a detailed listing of the services performed and the parts replaced.
- Self-service and maintenance: If you perform your own maintenance service, keep the proof-of-purchase receipts with the date the service was performed and the parts/lubricants replaced. Also note the odometer reading at the time the maintenance was performed.
- Continued operation: When a known problem exists with your vehicle, it is your responsibility to take all reasonable steps and use all reasonable means to protect the vehicle from further damage from continued operation.
You may have your required maintenance done at a different facility, or you may do the maintenance yourself, but keep the receipts. If you have the required maintenance completed at Schwan Buick GMC, whether in our main service department or in our Quick Lube Center, our dealership will track those maintenance records for you.
Please see the terms and conditions on the warranty form for specifics of how to file a claim for a covered repair.
